Some of us still prefer traditional courses.

The SpecTools are produced by aWaves academy and besides the co-operation with 3GPP, we have delivered over 80 LTE courses to leading LTE vendors since 2008 at the customer premises.

Our LTE overview plus TheSpecTool gives a very fast start to know the details of LTE and we can also customize courses that will meet the specific demand of your units

List of traditional courses

LTE Advanced Overview

The market demand of higher capacity is the driving force beind the next step in the evolution of LTE . This evolution is called LTE Advanced and the goals are to support 1Gbps peak data rate and also provide 100MHz bandwidth. This overview course of LTE advanced will present key featuers like carrier aggregation, enhanced advanced antenna techniques for the DL and the UL, Relay functions, Self Optimizing Networks -SON, and Enhanced Home Node B, HeNB. The first version of the course is one day long on an overivew level and it will in Q3 be extended to a two day course

Whou would benefit?
Enginners working in the LTE / SAE area with R&D amd O&M of networks, requiring a good understanding of the architecture and functionas of the LTE Advanced

Prerequisites
Good knowledge of LTE release 8 including signalling

Duration?
1 Day

LTE Network overview plus TheSpecTool overview

This 1 day classroom training is focusing on giving whole network pictures, covering the gap between the overview information in the e-learning and the detailed technical information in the SpecTool. The course covers the LTE/SAE network architecture and Traffic cases, Attach and Handover. MAC with scheduling and resource management is also studied. The physical layer, explaining OFDM and OFDMA. Downlink and uplink frame structure of E-UTRA is studied. During the course, TheSpecTool methods how to work in an effective way will be presented and all participants will have a full year licens to the tool

Whou would benefit?
Engineers start working within the LTE / SAE area requiring an overview understanding of the architecture and functions of the network.

Prerequisites
Basic understanding of the LTE system architecture and protocols overview to be found free of chage at: www.3gpp.org/technology

Duration?

LTE overview

LTE, Long Term Evolution, is the trade name of the development work in 3GPP to satisfy the future vision of UMTS- higher bitrates, band-width efficiency and flexibility, as well as cost efficiency SAE, System Architecture Evolution, is the denotation for the evolution of the core network to ensure co existence of HSPA, HSPA evolution and LTE. The course covers the UMTS-LTE/SAE architecture with main focus on LTE (evolved UTRAN, E-UTRAN). The downlink and uplink frame structure of E-UTRA is studied in detail. The physical layer, covering OFDM and DFT-spread OFDM (SC-FDMA), layer 2 including MAC with scheduling, resource management and HARQ, RLC with ARQ and PDCP handling ciphering as well as layer 3 RRC and NAS are also studied. The interoperability with other 3G UTRAN is covered, as well as the comparison with future 4G technologies.

Whou would benefit?
Those working in the UMTS-LTE area requiring an understanding of the architecture and functions of the protocols.

Prerequisites
Basic experience of UMTS/UTRAN is an advantage but not compulsory.

Duration?
2 days

LTE Signalling, Protocols and procedures

This 2 day course covers LTE Signalling as specified by 3GPP release 8.
After a review of the LTE system architecture as well as E-UTRAN basic functions and protocols, the course will focus on signalling procedures. The protocols and procedures will be described in detail per interface, starting with the radio interface, including the RRC, PDCP, RLC, MAC and PHY protocols, continuing with S1, X2, S11, S10 as well as S5/S8, hence also including some SAE interfaces as well, where focus will be on the upper layers. Thereafter the NAS protocol, between UE and MME will be introduced, including a detailed description of the Attach and Tracking area update procedures. With detailed knowledge about the various protocols, procedures covering a number of interfaces will be described, such as security, handover and examples of different services.

Whou would benefit?
Anyone who is working, or will be working, with LTE/SAE and requires a thorough understanding of the related protocols and procedures.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of LTE/SAE is compulsory.

Duration?
3 days
